MODEL IT Narrative Texts That Demonstrate the Seven Steps
We all have our favourite books! Part of learning to write is learning to see what real authors have done.
This extensive list covers a host of books, each one annotated with notes about how it demonstrates one or more of the Steps.
The original list was compiled by Jillian Mudford and is reproduced with permission, updated 2019.
How to use this resource:
Share a few favourite titles from this list and use them to show one of the Seven Steps in action. For example, if you are working with students on Step 4: Dialogue, the list provides a dozen examples of popular titles, from Possum Magic, to Sunday Chutney or The Gruffalo – with reference to specific examples of dynamic dialogue in each book.
Read the book, discuss the theory, and help students to practise the skill.
