This year’s theme, Book an Adventure, invites students to explore new worlds through reading and writing. Whether you’re planning activities, prepping for a parade or squeezing in a quick literacy win, we’ve got you covered.
Start the fun early with our free Reading–Writing Connection webinar on 11 August, featuring The Truck Cat – a CBCA shortlisted picture book. Then, during Book Week, dive into our classroom-ready resource pack and join a live writing lesson with Pobble and Seven Steps.
The magic of reading is that it brings people together, sparking conversations and a shared love of stories. The more children read, the more they learn about writing – soaking up the techniques and creativity of their favourite authors.

Reading Circles
Book Week is the perfect time to try reading circles – a fun way to support text analysis and boost literacy skills across all year levels. Like a book club with structure, students read the same text in small groups and take on different roles to encourage critical thinking and rich discussion.

This free Seven Steps-flavoured resource, featuring ready-made templates for the roles of Plot Summariser, Sizzle Spotter and Show Scene Analyst, is designed to help students analyse the Book Week texts.

The Truck Cat Unit
Also included in the pack is a jam-packed read to write unit based on The Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel and Danny Snell, shortlisted for the CBCA Picture Book of the Year.
Students will explore story structure, identify key techniques, then plan, draft and edit their own sequel to Tinka’s adventure using real author techniques.
This unit is all about making the reading–writing connection visible and helping students read like writers and write like readers.
