Thousands of young writers unite
To celebrate Book Week 2025, more than 5,000 students joined Pobble and Seven Steps to Writing Success for an inspiring live lesson. For 90 magical minutes, classrooms across Australia, New Zealand and beyond, wrote together in real time – sparking ideas, sharing their writing and celebrating the power of storytelling.
At the heart of the lesson was Pobble’s enchanting Library Adventure visual prompt and story starter. Armed with the Seven Steps techniques, students were guided through the whole writing process step by step – creating Sizzling Starts, brainstorming gripping complications and crafting great endings designed to leave a lasting impression.
The power of shared writing
From the moment the lesson began, the chat was flooded with creative ideas:
- “A library floating amongst the clouds.”
- “The chandelier comes to life.”
- “The doors at the back open a portal to scenes from a book.”
- “A library that is inside the Himalayas.”

With teachers typing furiously to capture and share ideas at lightning speed, students weren’t just writing their own adventures but also learning from peers across the country.
This celebration of student voices is powerful. When young people see their ideas valued and shared, their confidence grows, their engagement increases and their creativity flourishes.
Putting the techniques into practice
The session showcased just how simple and powerful the Seven Steps techniques can be. Even those new to the Seven Steps experimented with the techniques that professional authors use to hook the reader:
- “My feet felt like they were on clouds. My eyes looked at all the magical books in wonder. I could smell the age of the books which gave me the shivers.”
- “I cautiously reached for the golden spine of the spell book as it shimmered under the crystals from the ceiling lights. The butterflies felt like they would escape from my belly out of my ears…”
- “Thud! A leather book fell to the floor. I stood in shock, how could it fall there’s no one around? I thought.”
Instead of feeling overwhelmed by the blank page, students were guided to focus on one small, achievable step at a time – whether it was starting with action, adding a sensory detail, or brainstorming a problem for their character to face.

What teachers and students loved
The post-lesson poll captured the post-lesson buzz. Here’s what teachers loved most:
- “The inspiration, the writing, sharing ideas with 5,000 other students.”
- “Inclusivity with detailed sentence starters.”
- “The step-by-step breakdown of the writing process.
- “The fact our reluctant writers were involved.”
- “Differentiated – catering for all needs. Thank you!”
These reflections highlight more than just a successful lesson – they reveal the power of bringing structure and creativity together to engage every learner, from the most confident storyteller to the most reluctant writer.
By giving students clear entry points, opportunities to share their ideas and the chance to be part of a community of writers, the session showed thousands of children that their words matter.
A perfect partnership
The adventure continues
While the live lesson has ended, the adventure is far from over. Pobble and Seven Steps have made the resources available so schools can keep building on the excitement. And with more sessions already in the works, thousands more young writers will soon have the chance to experience the magic of writing together.
As one student wrote:
“I opened a book and the words leapt into my head, so the story began.”
This story has only just begun.
