'It is fantastic, I am very impressed with the presentation, layout and design element. A beautiful folder to handle, it makes you want to explore it.

The content is excellent and makes me so happy that at last the early years have a solid text to follow, it will assist all educators to encourage the writing to flow. It’s packed with easy to follow instructions and activities that I know will provide a sound base for the beginners.'

Simple and logical structure

Chapters organised by Step, so you can find what you need quickly. Each chapter includes:

  • Theory and exemplars to introduce the concepts
  • Group focused discussion activities and sharing ideas
  • Writing activities and templates for Beginner Writers of different ages and abilities

Teaching the techniques

Learn the theory and the top techniques that underpin each Step. Then use the before and after exemplars to model the Seven Steps techniques and show students what you are looking for in their writing.

Use the student checklists at the end of each chapter to ensure that students have grasped the key concepts before moving onto the next Step.

Curriculum-aligned writing activities

All of the activities are linked to the Australian Curriculum: English content descriptors and to other learning areas across the curriculum.

The activities are divided into three sections:

  • What it looks like: modelling the techniques
  • Tell me about it: discussing and sharing ideas
  • Time to write: putting the techniques into practice.

Consolidate students’ understanding of each Step, all whilst having fun with engaging Action Activities and writing templates!

Putting It All Together

This new chapter helps you support beginner writers as they transition to writing a full text using the Seven Steps.

With a focus on progressing from group work to solo writing, this new chapter includes three units of work to help students gain the confidence and skills they need to write complete texts.

How does the Beginner Writers Manual differ from the first edition (Early Years Writing Manual)?

The second edition was released in June 2022 with a new look and more content  to better support beginner writers. The original content has not been rewritten, instead it has been expanded upon to make it even bigger and better. New features include more extensive theory, student checklists, a Putting It All Together chapter with three units of work, a marking guide, implementation advice and a Starter Plan.

How do I access my digital manual?

Once you purchase your manual, you’ll get an email to set up your free Teacher Hub account. From your Teacher Hub dashboard you’ll find the ‘Products’ page. Your new manual will be available to download under the ‘Purchased Products’ section.

Do I need to complete a Seven Steps workshop before buying the Beginner Writers Manual?

The Beginner Writers Manual has a theory section for each Step so you can learn all of the techniques and then use the resources provided to roll out the Seven Steps in your classroom.

We still recommend coming to our training, as nothing compares to our engaging and interactive workshops but if you’d like to test out the techniques in your classroom first then the manual will help you do that.

Do I need to complete the Applying the Seven Steps with Beginner Writers workshop before buying the Beginner Writers Manual?

No. The Applying the Seven Steps with Beginner Writers workshop is designed for teachers who have already been trained in the Seven Steps and is not necessary or recommended for teachers new to the Seven Steps.

The Beginner Writers Manual contains everything you need to introduce the Seven Steps to beginner writers. However, if you are trained in the Seven Steps, the workshop is a great tool for specialty content and ideas for working with your beginner writers and a chance to collaborate with other teachers.

How long until I receive my order?

Expected standard delivery across Australia is within three weeks from the date of order. Express delivery is usually within one week from the date of order, particularly if you are in or close to a capital city.

Sometimes we find the resources have been delivered but they’re held up in your school’s main office, so you may want to check there to be sure they haven’t already arrived!

If your order still hasn’t been delivered after three weeks, please give our office a call on (03) 9521 8439 so we can figure out what’s gone wrong.

Do you offer special prices for CRTs?

We know CRTs often have to pay for their own teaching resources, without any support from schools, so we try to help where we can. Contact our office on (03) 9521 8439 or email [email protected] and we can chat!

What makes your manuals eco-friendly?

The manuals’ internal pages are made with ecoStar+, an environmentally responsible paper made carbon neutral and is FSC Recycled certified. ecoStar+ is manufactured from 100% post-consumer recycled fibre in a process chlorine free environment under the ISO 14001 environmental management system.

The manual folders are carbon neutral 4D Ring Binders.
