Ignite students' passion to inform
Can you imagine your students handing in reports with attention-grabbing insights and vivid descriptions, using facts to paint exquisite pictures with words?
All unique, all engaging.
Informative writing doesn’t need to be boring!
Informative writing encompasses a wide array of forms, from news articles to reports, documentary scripts and factual descriptions.
What’s great news for students is that the Seven Steps techniques can be applied to any type of informative text!
By breaking informative writing down into chunks and practising the Seven Steps through simple, fun and engaging activities your students will learn how to write informative texts that informs and engages their audiences.

From dull statements to painting a picture with words.
Here’s an example of how Step 5: Show, Don’t Tell can transform a student’s informative text.
Before
Bears stand at the top of waterfalls and catch the salmon leaping upstream.
Notice how the ‘before’ simply TELLS the reader about bears while the ‘after’ SHOWS what hunting is really like.
After
The bear stands at the top of the waterfall, his eyes watching a flash of silver in the pool below. It is a female salmon, struggling to swim upstream to lay her eggs. She has swum for two days now, heavy with eggs and she is exhausted, but this is the last waterfall.
She swims below, gathering her strength for the last great leap. The bear waits patiently. He can afford to be patient, he is standing at the narrowest part of the waterfall, he knows where the fish will come…
